David Král elected new Chair of PASOS

Olga Shumylo will serve as PASOS Deputy Chair and Dace Akule as Treasurer.

The PASOS Board of Directors, meeting in Brussels on 1-2 June 2010, elected David Král, Director of EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, Czech Republic, as the new Board Chair. David Král was a member of the first PASOS Board from 2004-2008, and returned to the Board upon his election at the sixth annual members’ meeting, held in Lviv, Ukraine, on 25 October 2009.

David Král lectures at the University of Public Administration and International Relations in Prague, and previously lectured at Charles University – Faculty of Social Sciences. He is a certified trainer in EU modules for public administration. During the work of the Convention on the Future of Europe and the Intergovernmental Conference 2003/2004 he was a member of advisory groups of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Prime Minister. His main areas of expertise in EUROPEUM include the Lisbon Treaty, EU enlargement, EU external relations, Common Foreign and Security Policy, and EU Freedom, Security and Justice policy.

He and his colleagues at EUROPEUM were invited by the Czech government to elaborate an analysis of the first draft priorities of the Czech EU Presidency, and David Král subsequently participated in the advisory working group on foreign policy reporting to the Czech Republic’s Deputy Premier for European Affairs, Alexandr Vondra. The working group met on a regular basis in the run-up to the Czech EU Presidency in 2009.

The meeting confirmed Olga Shumylo, member of the Supervisory Board of the International Centre for Policy Studies (ICPS), Ukraine, as PASOS Deputy Chair, and Dace Akule, Researcher (European policy) at the Centre for Public Policy PROVIDUS, Latvia, as Treasurer.
