This was the essence in the years of effort of a man, who is the symbol of transition in the Bulgarian economy – Alexander Boshkov.
А respected authority and champion of structural reforms in Bulgaria, he defended the interests of the state always and everywhere:
- when he negotiated with the international financial institutions in the years of bankrupted Bulgarian state,
- when he started the negotiations for Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union,
- as a participant in international conferences all over the world,
- as a member of acknowledged world forums, where he represented Bulgaria,
- as a participant in political meetings, which mapped the future of the country.
As a founder and Co-chair of the Center for Economic Development, PASOS member in Sofia, in the course of 10 years he applied all his knowledge and his authority as a politician and a statesman, to advise and propose solutions and policies in the area of economy to all governments and institutions.
And all this in the name of one goal – the transformation of Bulgaria into a good place of life for our children!
We lost a colleague and a friend, Bulgaria lost a very worthy and a very talented person!
We hope that the generations to come will assess the true worth of his contribution to Bulgaria’s history!

Alexander BOSHKOV
Alexander Boshkov was born on 9 August 1951 in Sofia.
Alexander Boshkov is the founder and Co-Chair of the Center for Economic Development.
Alexander Boshkov holds a M. Sc. Degree in Thermal Engineering from Sofia Technical University, and is a graduate of the American College in Bagdad, Iraq.
His professional experience ranges from Design Research Institute, Ministry of Regional Development, housing policy and construction, where he is head of construction and Industry Department, through the Institute of Building Materials – Sofia, where he is a Research associate, specializing in environmental issues, energy conservation and project financing. His professional experience also includes years as Supervisor and Advisor to the Ministry of Public Works in Libya.
He is the founder and first Executive Director of the Bulgarian Privatization Agency, as well as a member of parliament in the 37-th National Assembly (1994-1997) – Deputy Chair of the Economic Committee, and Chair of the Subcommittee in Privatization.
He was elected Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry in the Caretaker Government of Stefan Sofiansky, and the Government of Ivan Kostov. In this capacity Alexander Boshkov has contributed incontestably to the reforms, carried out by the Government: the restructuring and privatization of the economy, the creation of the Bulgarian capital market, the carrying out of the pension reform.
He was the first Chief Negotiator of Bulgaria with the European Union, for our accession to the EU.
Alexander Boshkov was the founder of the United Christian-Democratic Center. He was also elected Deputy Chair of the UDF and a member of UDF’s National Executive Council.
He has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the New Bulgarian University since 1 December 2005. He taught «The Art of Negotiations» at the university.
A member of the Managing Board of the Institute for Educational Policies and Studies.
Alexander Bozhkov also worked as a radio host of the weekly broadcast “Music for the soul” on Darik Radio. His publications embrace a wide range of subjects – the collections “Thoughts of the soul,” “More thoughts of the soul,” “The State against the reforms,” publications in specialized magazines and year-books on subjects in the area of thermal processes in the construction industry, a weekly column in “The Dnevnik” newspaper, political and economic analyses in the printed and electronic media.
He was editor of the Center for Economic Development publication “The Economy of Bulgaria” for the past several years.
