The Institute for Development and Social Initiatives “Viitorul” (IDIS) and OWH TV Studio, a Moldovan NGO that specializes in producing multimedia content to promote democratic values, have created a documentary about the capital of Moldova.

The two organizations released Chisinau: A European Capital on 19 January 2012, at a ceremony held in the National Museum of Archaeology and History of Moldova. The documentary is intended to promote investment, tourism, and cultural capital. It was produced with financial support from the German Hanns-Seidel Foundation, in collaboration with the City of Chisinau.

The video is available in Romanian and English and will be distributed on 100 DVDs through diplomatic missions and international organizations in Moldova.

“This promotional product is a practical tool that Chisinau will use to show not only its best-known investment opportunities, but also its cultural assets,” said IDIS “Future” Director Liubomir Chiriac.

The twenty-minute documentary shows the city’s evolution during the 20-year period after the 1991 Declaration of Independence of the Republic of Moldova, focusing on landscape architecture and historical monuments. The works of Moldovan artists are also highlighted.

In addition, the video touches on the the city’s investment opportunities, and includes interviews with leaders in the construction sector, light industry, agriculture, and the manufacturing of such products as candy, wine, rugs, and clothing.

In 2010, IDIS “Future” and OWH TV Studio produced a similar documentary about the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia.
