A series of Al Jazeera programs on the political transformation of Poland after the fall of Communism features interviews with analysts from the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA).
The IPA experts met with journalists from Al Jazeera in the fall to discuss a number of issues related to Poland’s recent political history. The meetings were organized as part of an agreement between the Qatari-based media outlet and Poland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The series, the first episode of which was broadcast on March 17, is intended to provide inspiration for the emerging democratic movements in North Africa and the Middle East, according to Al Jazeera.
Eight half-hour episodes are scheduled to air dealing with such topics as Poland’s constitution, the previous political system, the role of media in implementing democratic reforms and other issues related to the country’s political transformation.
Currently the series is being broadcast only in Arabic, but an English version is to be released soon on Al Jazeera International. The final episode will feature an interview with former Polish President Lech Wałęsa.
