NATO vs. Crises
How does NATO respond to the world economic crisis and austerity measures, which lead to significant cuts in defence budgets and also influence the functioning of this organization, is the dominant question of the round table that will be held by the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy.
Another topic which is to be discussed is whether there is a crisis of identity within NATO reflected through decreased financial and military participation of the European members and greater role of other allies such as Australia and Japan.
Special attention will be given to lessons Serbia could learn from the Smart Defence concept which is implemented by NATO and whose essence is keeping the efficiency despite the budget reductions by better use of capacities through prioritization and more efficient coordination.
