The economic life of Azerbaijan is closely tied to oil. This study claims that the advantage of possessing oil can quickly be spoiled if the resources are merely spent to satisfy short-term interests. However, if managed wisely, e.g. through proper defining and prioritising of the long-term interests of the entire society owning the resources, having oil can be extremely beneficial.
