Vita Tērauda, Executive Director
Vita Tērauda was the founding director of PROVIDUS, leading the think tank through its first decade, establishing PROVIDUS as a strong, sustainable voice in domestic policymaking, and as a trusted knowledge partner regionally and internationally. She was elected to the first PASOS Board of Directors in 2004 and was Chair of the Board from 2004-2008. In 2013 and 2014, she authored the Latvia country report for the Bertelsmann Foundation’s Sustainable Governance Index.
Tērauda served as director of the Soros Foundation – Latvia from 1995 to 2002, contributing to democratic development in Latvia via a wide range of grant-making and operational programming in areas such as criminal justice reform, introduction of new models of bilingual education, youth exchange programs, establishment of the Riga Graduate School of Law, civil society development, governmental transparency and accountability, judicial reform.
She served as the Latvian Minister of State Reform in the early 1990s, spearheading the post-Soviet transformation of Latvia’s executive branch of government, including establishment of the civil service, the School of Public Administration, freedom of information regulations, conflict of interest legislation, administrative remedies, overhauling the decision-making process at the center of government.
Alfredo Azula, Communications Manager
Alfredo Azula has worked as a reporter, writer and editor for a variety of print and online publications, including The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Arizona Republic, and MSNBC. He was the Executive Editor of The Prague Post, an English-language newspaper based in the Czech Republic. Azula also has an extensive background in the computing communications industry, as a managing editor and web producer with several Microsoft websites.
Václav Kříž, Grants Administrator
Václav Kříž is Grants Administrator at PASOS. Previously, he worked at the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy. He is currently studying European Studies at the Charles University in Prague. Kříž chairs the organization Mladí občané (Young Citizens) and he is a member of the Active Reserve of the Army of the Czech Republic. In 2015, he was elected a member of the town council in his hometown.
