The Economic Research Council (ERC) recently held a training seminar on data visualization and online communications tools for representatives of Azerbaijani NGOs.
The three-day training, held November 6-8 in Baku, also included a course in how to integrate data gleaned from online surveys with statistical software. The first two days of the seminar, which focused on getting NGOs to think visually as they plan communications campaigns intended to publicize their research, was led by PASOS Communications Manager Alfredo Azula.
Azula led the participants through an interactive exercise in which the trainees worked on creating visualizations from data compiled by Azerbaijani NGOs for reports. The group also studied how NGOs can make use of such online tools as Prezi, Google Drive, online surveys, and Instagram. In addition, the group explored the current best practices for Internet research techniques and the design of print and online publications.
Seymur Cavadov of Caucasus Research Resource Center led the training on the third day, covering IBM’s SPSS predictive analytics software.
The training was part of the project “Enhancing the effectiveness of government by strengthening the role of think tanks in the decision-making arena,” funded by the European Union and implemented in partnership with PASOS and the Intelligent Citizen Enlightenment Center.
The project’s objective is to create new opportunities for independent, non-governmental participants to join the policymaking process in Azerbaijan by strengthening the capacities of and cooperation between Azerbaijani think tanks.
