PASOS experts to speak at Eastern Partnership Civil Society Conference in Riga

Three experts from PASOS-affiliated organizations will be participating on panels at the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Conference in Riga May 20-21.
Jeff Lovitt, executive director of PASOS; Stepan Grigoryan, chairman of the board of the Analytical Centre on Globalization and Regional Cooperation (ACGRC); and Jan Pieklo, executive director of the Polish-Ukrainian Cooperation Foundation (PAUCI) will be appearing at “Empowering Civil Society In The Eastern Partnership: Current Challenges And Future Scenarios.”
The conference is being held in connection with the Riga Eastern Partnership Summit, where EU leaders will meet representatives of the Eastern Partnership (EaP) partner countries to reconfirm the importance the EU attaches to the EaP.
The conference aims to empower civil society stakeholders from the EU and Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, and Ukraine. The conference will enhance the role of civil society, exchange transformational experiences and best practices in order to facilitate trans-border cooperation on issues of social and political inclusion, accountable governance, stability and security, and sustainable development. Concrete recommendations on empowering civil society will be presented to the public and the Riga Eastern Partnership Summit.
More than 300 civil society representatives and experts from the EU member states and EaP countries are expected to attend.
Lovitt will be moderating a panel on “Re-Vitalising the Neighbourhood and the Vision and Tasks for the Eastern Partnership.”
Grigoryan will be making a presentation during the panel called “Accountable Governance and Civil Society.”
Pieklo will be speaking as part of the panel on “Trans Border Cooperation and Experience Exchange in Central and Eastern Europe: EU states and the Six Eastern European Partners.”

The event is being hosted by the Latvian Institute of International Affairs, the Centre for East European Policy Studies, the Latvian Transatlantic Organisation, and the Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum.
