PASOS has teamed up with Transitions Online (TOL) on a project to assess the contemporary state of internet freedom and online privacy in the Visegrad 4 countries.
The V4 Online: Free and Uncensored? will result in the publication of four reports in the Visegrad 4 countries — the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland — together with a comparative overview, and associated advocacy and public outreach. The six-month project is being funded by Google.
TOL is a nonprofit organization established to strengthen the professionalism, independence and impact of the news media in the post-communist countries of Europe and the former Soviet Union. TOS publishes the Transitions Online magazine.
Three of the country reports are being prepared by PASOS members: the Association for International Affairs (AMO), Czech Republic; the Institute of Public Affairs (IPA), Poland; and the Institute for Public Affairs (IVO), Slovak Republic. The fourth report will be prepared by the Center for Media & Communication Studies, School of Public Policy, Central European University, Hungary.
In addition to the four country reports, the project will also arrange meetings between privacy advocates and government officials, hold public seminars to present the reports, and conduct media outreach built around the case studies and the reports’ findings.
