Three members of the European Parliament (EP) from the Czech Republic will be meeting with the public at a September 5 PASOS event in Prague to discuss plans for the upcoming session of the EP, and to get input from citizens on what they want their representatives to achieve.
The event is being held as part of “Enlargement and Citizenship: Looking to the Future,” an EU-funded PASOS project to gauge the level of citizen engagement in the policymaking process in the EU’s new-member states and prospective union members.
The MEPs who will participate in Občané v Evropě: I Vy můžete určovat směr Evropské politiky (Citizens in Europe: You can shape the direction of European policy) are Pavel Telička, Stanislav Polčák, and Petr Mach.
In addition, the MEPs will be joined on a panel by Pavel Růžička of the Czech branch of “Water Is a Human Right,” a group that successfully collected enough signatures on a European Citizens Initiative (ECI) petition that asks the EP to adopt legislation on water rights. Růžička will be providing an update on how the citizens’ intitiative is proceeding.
Vladimír Bartovic, director of the EUROPEUM Institute for European Policy, will be moderating the discussion.
The event is being held at Evropsky dum, Jungmannova 24, and begins at 5 p.m.
